The Town runs a campground inside LaVern M. Johnson Park, a five-minute walk from Main Street along the river, with the whitewater park, the splash pad and the playgrounds on the doorstep. RV sites with full hookups are open year-round; tent sites run from mid-April to mid-October. Sites are reserved through the Town, and the popular weekends fill early in the year.

Campervans
Dry camping for self-contained campervans at the St. Vrain Trailhead on 2nd Avenue, mid-May to mid-September, also through the Town.
Bears and fire
Bears walk the river corridor: food in the vehicle or the locker, never the tent. Fire restrictions apply in dry spells; the county posts the current stage.
Further out
Roosevelt National Forest dispersed camping begins in the canyons west of town; St. Vrain State Park (19 miles) and Boyd Lake State Park (27 miles) have year-round campgrounds with hookups.

Festival weekends: plan the bed first

Late July and mid-August bring several thousand people to a town of two thousand. On-site camping at Planet Bluegrass is sold with the festival tickets and goes fast; the tiny homes and the lodge book out months ahead; the Town campground follows. Longmont, twelve miles east, has the nearest hotel beds, and Estes Park, twenty miles west, the next.

01Buy the festival camping with the ticket if you want to sleep on the ranch.
02Otherwise book in Lyons the week the dates are announced, usually the winter before.
03Missed both? Longmont hotels, and the festival shuttles from Bohn Park.

When Lyons is full

Beds within half an hour

Lyons has no hotel. The nearest are along Colorado 66 and US 36 to the east, and in Estes Park to the west; all are an easy drive back for dinner and the show.

The most beds and the widest range of prices: the chain hotels cluster along Ken Pratt Boulevard and the Diagonal, a straight run on Colorado 66.
